CCAS Summer Tours in France

CCAS act in favor of the development of the human beeings, the well-being of each person and the quality of life, while respecting in solidarity and dignity their legal rights. In France more than 1% of the population is working in the electricity and gas sector - aprox. 657.000 people – workers and their families. They are the beneficiaries of social and cultural activities of CCAS, which includes the vacation opportunities for all generations and summer camps for young people. During the vacation period CCAS offers acess to artistic and cultural discovery programs. In its centers and in sites of its social tourism partners these programs present a widest diversity of expression - included smal format acoustic concerts giving an inside view into music from various cultures performed by master musicians.  

Since many years alba KULTUR is supporting CCAS for it's mission and for the selection and organisation of the music program.

The legendary vocal trio from the cultural capital Bulawayo in Zimbabwe presents rousing Imbube cappella singing of the Ndebele, who live in the south of the country and in the north of South Africa. The country's cultural diversity is reflected in the music: polyphonic, loud and powerful choral singing originated in colonial times, when miners left their home villages to earn money in the mines and Isicathamiya singing style, which, in contrast to Imbube, is softer and places more emphasis on a harmonious mix of voices and in which dance is an essential element. Insingizi's songs draw on both styles and are full of hope, optimism and faith.

Lornoar is a singer, songwriter and dancer from Cameroon. She began performing at a young age and quickly became an insider tip with her concerts in the city's hip clubs. She writes strong and beautiful lyrics, inspired both by God and everyday life: the need for comfort, love, abandonment, jealousy, the divine power, but also about women's fight against violence, the fight against intolerance and the abuse of children in war times. Her music consists of different rhythms from Bikutsi to Bossa Nova, Makossa, Batanga, Ekank, Ekomot, Mbalax and more. Today she is recogized as the Voice of Eton people.

The Appalachians are a mountainous region in the east of the USA. Immigrants from England, the Scottish Lowlands and Ulster settled in the Appalachians in the 17th/ 18th centuries and brought with them their musical traditions such as English ballads and Irish and Scottish tunes played on the fiddle. There various European influences met African-American blues, but also church hymns - and a unique, popular folk music emerged. They combine tradition, humor, influences from minimal music with a chamber music aesthetic. And when harmonized singing is added, a special sound is created!

Rina Das Baul comes from a Baul family and learned lyrics, rhythms and musical instruments from an early age from her grandfather, who taught her to understand the musical nuances and also introduced her to the Baul philosophy that has been passed down from generation to generation in her family for centuries. Bauls do not identify with any organized religion or the caste system, but rather focus on the importance of a person's physical body as the place where God resides. The Bauls are admired for this freedom from convention as well as for their music and poetry. The language of the songs is constantly being modernized, giving them contemporary relevance.
This powerful musical form has been recognized by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage.
